A self designed experience completed during Spring semester, 2018. This personal project focused on exploring and studying a new environment, and developing a sense of self as an artist. The method of the project was plein air painting from direct observation in different natural environments near Pasadena, California.
The Work
These paintings are themselves the project. Each painting was made in a new location at the end of a hike or visit to the place (for example, at the end of a day at the beach). The last painting, however was a revisit of the first location. The reason for this return was to see if I could more accurately portray the sense of place, to study how I have changed as an artist and to see how my view or experience of that place has changed since living there and hiking in that spot several times.
Sharing My Experience
In order to share this project with a broad variety of people, I decided to publish my work on Medium.com. Here is the link to the article. Medium.com is a good way for me to reach an audience that is specifically looking to read explorative and informative content about art, as well as just the general public as anyone who is exploring on medium could happen across the article. It is a good platform for students to publish and seek inspiration within.
